James Dean was molested as a child, claims a writer who says Elizabeth Taylor took the shocking secret to her grave.
Journalist Kevin Sessums says the legendary actress swore him to secrecy when she allegedly made the revelation during an interview in 1997.
Taylor, who died on Wednesday at the age of 79, and Dean were great friends.
The actor was 24 when he died in 1955, shortly after he filmed Giant with the London-born beauty.
According to Sessums, Taylor said Dean confessed he had been 'molested by his minister' when he was 11.
The writer was interviewing Taylor for POZ, a US magazine for people living with HIV and AIDS.
The interview was supposed to be about the Hollywood legend's charity work, raising funds and awareness about AIDS.
But Sessums claims Taylor veered off the topic and revealed the shocking secret about the Fifties hunk.
According to the writer, the actress said: 'I loved Jimmy.
'I'm going to tell you something, but it's off the record until I die. OK?
'When Jimmy was 11 and his mother passed away, he began to be molested by his minister.
'I think that haunted him the rest of his life. In fact, I know it did.
'We talked about it a lot. During Giant we'd stay up nights and talk and talk and that was one of the things he confessed to me.'
Sessums interviewed Taylor at her Bel Air home in 1997. At the time she had recently been in hospital for the removal of a brain tumour.
Sessums says that during the interview Taylor also opened another one of her friends - playwright Tennessee Williams.

La ganadora del Oscar explicó a Sessums que ella creía "que eso lo marcó para el resto de su vida. De hecho, sé que fue así".
"Hablábamos mucho de eso. Durante el rodaje de 'Gigante', pasamos noches enteras despiertos en las que hablábamos y hablábamos, y esa fue una de las cosas que me dijo", afirmó la difunta musa de Hollywood.
Taylor estableció una estrecha amistad con Dean durante el rodaje de la película, por lo que ella fue una de las actrices que más lamentó su muerte en 1955, cuando falleció a los 24 años en un accidente automovilístico.
