Hey Guys...I remember a couple of years ago when I was living in New York...and I met this interesting senior gay guy...who told me: YOU SHOULD'VE COME TO NY IN THE 70s, AND OF COURSE YOU SHOULD'VE GONE TO FIRE ISLAND THE BEST GAY PARADISE EVER"
Last week, I came across with this documentary which gave me the whole picture of that era...I think this is a MUST SEE major investigative story!! (con subtítulos en español)
A chronicle of gay culture in New York during the post-Stonewall, pre-AIDs era. Thirteen men and one woman look back at gay life and sex in Manhattan and Fire Island - from Stonewall (June, 1969) to the first reporting on AIDS (June, 1981). They describe the rapid move from repression to celebration, from the removal of shame to joy, the on-going search for "someone," the freedom before AIDS, the friendships, and brotherhood. They take us through cruising and sex in public places, the drug scene, the bars and the baths, the birth of entertainment and dance clubs, and starry nights on Fire Island. Photographs, home movies, newsreels, and film clips illustrate the story. A few contemporary "what did the 70's mean?" man-in-the-street takes end the documentary.
Este documental nos revela y nos conduce por el mundo y la cultura gay de la época preSIDA en el paraíso sexual que fue el Nueva York de los 70. En los años Stonewall dónde la represión y el miedo fueron sustituidos por explosión sexual y dónde la vergüenza se convertía en alegría.
Fotografía gay, arte gay, sexo gay, música gay, drogas para todos, testimonios gay, carne gay, política gay, liberación gay, un largo etc gay en un documento realizado con material real y con entevistas a aquellos que lograron sobrevivir al primer contacto y duro golpe del conocimieno del SIDA.
Entre otros cómo el fotógrafo Tom Bianchi o el activista Larry Kramer, hablan sobre la desenfrenada vida sexual y las nuevas drogas que se fueron incorporaron en la escena gay de la época, pero tambien sobre sus inquietudes, preocupaciones, motivaciones y demostrando que fueron tiempos de fraternidad junto con lucha política para con los derechos de todos nosotros, con lo cual demuestra que el SIDA no fue la única herencia de ese período.
