Earlier this year, Max was studying architecture at a Russian university. Now, he has been expelled from his studies and fled the country after being accused of promoting so-called ‘LGBTQ+ propaganda’.
His crime? Sharing his love of makeup online.
Max is part of a steady stream of people escaping Russia, following the invasion of Ukraine and president Vladimir Putin’s crackdown on LGBTQ+ rights.

Thousands of rainbow-clad LGBTQ+ people and allies descended on Manchester for its annual Pride festival, as the event took on a wedding theme to celebrate 10 years of same-sex marriage.
Manchester Pride, which is one of the biggest Pride events in the country, kicked off its celebrations in the city’s Gay Village on Friday (25 August).
The four-day extravaganza across the August Bank Holiday weekend sees live performances, a variety of events and the iconic Pride parade march through the city.

The ex-CEO of Stonewall has criticised two cathedrals in England for installing a helter skelter and a golf course in their respective naves.
Ben Summerskill, who was chief executive of the LGBT+ rights charity from 2003 to 2014, said that churches should instead celebrate equal marriage in a letter to the Guardian on Sunday (August 11).
On Friday (August 9), it was revealed that Norwich Cathedral had put up a 55ft high helter skelter in its building after Rochester Cathedral introduced a crazy golf course in its nave at the end of July.
